A recent Gallup study showed that American’s confidence in the national mass media has reached a near record low. While that’s disturbing, it’s not unexpected.  The digital age has brought a barrage of national news sources that are focused on sound bites, opinions, partisan views and a race to push out breaking news, even if it hasn’t been properly fact-checked or vetted. The problem has been exasperated by social media channels that allow disinformation to be distributed virtually unchecked.

Kids get chance to fly Saturday

Ever wonder what it would be like to fly high above Stanislaus County and see it from a bird’s eye view?

Well, on Oct. 28, kids from ages 8 to 17 can do exactly that as part of the Young Eagles Day at Turlock Municipal Airport from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Chapter 90 of the Experimental Aircraft Association, based in Oakdale, is hosting the event, along with the Turlock Regional Aviation Association.

Japanese students get taste of America locally

Nine area high schools hosted 295 Japanese students, 20 teachers and two administrators from Kyoto University of Advanced Science High School in recent weeks, including Ceres, Central Valley, Hughson, Delhi, Beyer, Enochs, Gregori, Ripon and Pacheco.

Retired Ceres High School activity director Linda Cooper coordinated the trip just as she has since 2016.

Man Sentenced To 15 Years To Life In State Prison After Homicide Of Robert Morgan

The Turlock Police Department announced today that Alejandro Rosales, 24, of Los Banos, was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for his homicide conviction.

On Sunday, January 15th, at 1:38am, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to an aggravated assault that had just occurred behind The Udder Place in the 100 block of W. Main Street.

PRAYING FOR TURLOCK

Over 100 community members gathered on South Broadway Saturday night, not for the downtown nightlife or a block party, but to unite in prayer for the city and its residents.

The 4th annual Pray Turlock event was a collaboration between Calvary Chapel Turlock, Monte Vista Chapel, Harvest Church, Blessed Hope Assyrian Church and Enclave Community Church.

Nourishing Turlock

The kitchen inside the Turlock Gospel Mission is humming with activity. Dinner is about to be served and the staff is putting the finishing touches on a meal that will sustain many of Turlock’s homeless residents.

Most nights, dinner is reserved for the single unaccompanied women, women with children and men with children who seek shelter in the 60-bed facility — an overflow permit allows TGM to accommodate another two dozen — from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Teen suspected of human trafficking in Stanislaus County

A teen was arrested by officers with the Fresno Police Department on Oct. 15 for suspected human trafficking of a minor in Turlock, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The 16-year-old male was seen at the Fresno County Fair by officers who were aware that the teen had a Ramey Warrant for human trafficking of a minor by force, pimping and pandering.

Multiple suspects arrested in connection with Merced County shooting, sheriff says

Multiple suspects have been arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide in connection with a September shooting that occurred in Merced County, according to authorities.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office said it received assistance from the Merced Police Department, Turlock Police Department, Department of Justice, Merced County Probation and Homeland Security in executing multiple search warrants Thursday morning throughout Merced County.

Husband, wife found dead in Turlock

 A husband and wife were found dead in Turlock late Monday night.

How the couple died is not clear at this time. 

Turlock Police Department said they responded to a report of two people dead along the 1000 block of East Springer Avenue. Arriving officers found the two people dead.
