Turlock man killed in single-vehicle rollover crash in Westley area, CHP reports

A Turlock man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday evening in the Westley area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 6:10 p.m. on Howard Road west of Stark Road.

Local tech academy expecting record enrollment amid increased worker demand

Whether you consider yourself technically savvy or not, society has undeniably become more reliant on modern tech and software. It’s something that more people have come to realize, which has resulted in a dramatic uptick in interest and enrollment at Modesto’s Bay Valley Tech coding academy.

According to Bay Valley Tech president Phillip Lan, the academy is expected to teach over 1,000 students across their tuition-free code academy, digital skills bootcamp and tech internship program in 2023. By this time next year, he expects that figure to double.

Man arrested with fentanyl after being reported as suspicious person early Friday morning

On Friday, April 7th, 223, at 1:30 am, the Turlock Police Department and Stanislaus State Police Department were dispatched to a reported suspicious person at Dutch Bros Coffee, 1201 W Monte Vista Ave, after two men had been seen looking into the closed business.

Transient found deceased in vehicle Saturday afternoon

On Saturday, April 8th, 2023, at 12:17 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported sick person at Pedretti Park, 2400 N Tegner Rd, Turlock, who was unresponsive inside a vehicle.

Paramedics were the first to arrive on scene and immediately declared Tommy Lantis, 69, of Turlock, deceased.

It’s spring break, but there is still local baseball and softball taking place

The schedule this week called for two local high school baseball tourneys, and the Righetti Best of the West Softball Tournament, which will take place Thursday through Saturday.

Council approves container home project for homeless

Turlock could soon be home to a new transitional housing project for homeless families, homeless veterans and senior citizens, following action by the Turlock City Council on Tuesday.

“It’s a difficult issue to deal with,” said Turlock City Manager Reagan Wilson about the City’s homelessness issue. “Just from a statistically perspective, in the last (homeless) Point-In-Time Count I think there were 221 homeless persons counted in the city of Turlock…Turlock actually has 129 overnight shelter beds between the Turlock Gospel Mission and the We Care program — the gospel mission has 80 and We Care has 49.

After flying to Nashville, Sarah Snyder sang her own song for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. She nailed the audition and made her way to Hollywood Week.

Oregon has multiple champions, numerous finalists at prestigious Reno Worlds wrestling meet

Eleven Oregon high school wrestlers reached the finals last weekend at the 2023 World of Wrestling Reno Worlds, one of the top postseason tournaments on the West Coast.

West Albany senior Ariana Martinez, who capped a 45-0 high school season by winning a second state title at OSAA 6A/5A Girls 115 pounds, won the 18U 118 division in sudden-victory overtime, earning a 6-4 decision against Hawaii’s Kalina Hotema.

Cyclist dies after being struck by train in Turlock

 A man died in Turlock on Thursday after being struck by a northbound train while riding his bike, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Police found the man at East Main Street and learned that he was struck from behind while crossing the railroad tracks when the crossing arms were down.

Meet Turlock’s newest ‘American Idol’ contestant. How she got on the show, and what’s next

People around the world may not know where Turlock, California is, but “American Idol” viewers now have heard the city’s name at least twice as another Central Valley native has heard “yes” from enough judges to make it on the show.

Pitman High graduate Sarah Snyder, 27, impressed pop star Katy Perry, singer-songwriter Lionel Richie and country singer Luke Bryan enough to get the “golden ticket” to Hollywood and also make it through to the showstopper performance round. The showstopper’s first part airs Easter Sunday, and part two is Monday.
