Fleeing driver crashes into Stanislaus Regional bus, takes off on foot before being caught

A man wanted for felony evasion in Salida was found in Modesto when he fled officers again, crashed into a county bus and then into a tree before running through several backyards, finally being caught at his parents’ house.

Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies captured a suspect in the 2900 block of Laramie Drive. He’s tentatively been identified as Andrew Ball, 37, of Modesto, Lt. David Mullins said.

Coroner identifies man and woman killed in suspected murder-suicide in Merced

The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified a man and woman killed in a suspected murder-suicide in Merced on Feb. 16 as 51-year-old Melissa Conrad and 55-year-old Matthew Steven Fell, according to Deputy Alexandra Britton.

Police said officers found the woman dead with visible injuries inside a home in the 2400 block of White Fir Court while responding to the residence for a welfare check.

Modesto police say 3 people were hit in shooting. 1 badly hurt, no suspect identified

Two men and a woman were shot Monday morning in the area of Tully Road and West Granger Avenue, according to Modesto police. An initial Bee report Monday had only one victim.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, police shut down the 1600 block of Tully Road getting reports that told shots were fired and multiple subjects were hit, Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear wrote in a message Tuesday.

Woman arrested in Modesto on attempted murder charges. Police say shooting was not random

A woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shooting a Modesto resident on Saturday night, police said.

Around 8 p.m., police were called about a disturbance on the 700 block of East Fairmont Avenue, just off Sunrise Avenue, where a woman was shot, according to Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

Calif. police computer network hobbled by ransomware attack

The Modesto police department has been hacked in recent days by ransomware, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the incident told The Bee late Wednesday.

While the extent of the damage is not fully known, the cybersecurity breach has disabled patrol vehicle laptops, causing officers to resort to "old school policing." Since the attack, officers must write down the details of the calls they receive from dispatch rather than receiving them through electronic communication.

Three men take plea deals in deadly gang-related shootout at Turlock motel

A plea deal has been reached for three men charged in a fatal shootout at a Turlock motel on Labor Day 2020.

The incident, in which more than 20 shots were fired, happened at the Days Inn near Highway 99 and Main Street when a fight broke out between rival gangs in neighboring rooms.

Pedestrian dies in early-morning hit-and-run in Modesto

 A 68-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Modesto on Wednesday morning, according to the Modesto Police Department.

At 6:53 a.m., officers responded to Yosemite Boulevard at Santa Ana Avenue and found Ronald Swindle, 68, of Modesto dead at the scene.

Turlock police make additional changes to downtown security following January shootings

Community groups call for updated use-of-force policies after Tracy teen shot by officer

Following the police shooting that injured a 17-year-old teen in the Tracy area of San Joaquin County, organizations are showing support for the teen and his family.

This comes after body camera footage from last week's shooting was released on Wednesday. The video shows the teen getting into a fight with his adult brother and eventually approaching — knife in hand — both the brother and a Tracy Police Department officer before that officer shot him twice.

One Arrested, Police Seek Info from Public in Fatal Market & South Broadway Shooting

Police in Turlock have opened an investigation into a recent fatal shooting, according to a department media release.

Around 2 AM on Saturday, January 14th, officers responded to the area of Market and South Broadway downtown for a report of a shooting and found evidence that corroborated this report, as well as evidence that at least one person had been struck by gunfire, but no individuals remained at the scene.
