Lawsuits spanning decades allege sex abuse, hit Modesto-area Boy Scouts, schools, foster care

She was 4 or 5 when the trauma began.

Her Modesto foster parent sexually assaulted her 20 to 30 times over the course of a year at his home, according to a lawsuit filed last month in Stanislaus County Superior Court.

The girl told her social worker what was happening, but the Stanislaus County Community Services Agency did nothing for a month as the abuse continued, the lawsuit alleges.

Turlock Downtown Shooting makes 2nd Homicide for 2023

“Turlock, CA – The Turlock Police Department received a 9-1-1 call this morning at 1:38 a.m. reporting a shooting behind the Udder Place and Grand Cru in downtown Turlock. Officers were immediately dispatched to the reported location and found a 31-year old male victim, identified as Robert Morgan of Turlock, laying on the ground and CPR was in process by uninvolved persons.

Turlock Police to increase patrols downtown following deadly weekend

TURLOCK, Calif. — Law enforcement officials in Stanislaus County are increasing patrols this weekend in downtown Turlock following a violent two days last weekend that left two people dead and one person injured in two separate downtown shootings.

In a Facebook post Friday, the Turlock Police Department said that they will be increasing patrols in the downtown corridor and surrounding areas Saturday and Sunday.

Victims of Hilmar double homicide identified. They were ages 74 and 69, coroner says

The victims of a double homicide in Hilmar have been identified by the Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office as Lionel Alcantar Bazan, 74, and Juanita C. Lopez, 69, both of Hilmar, according to Deputy Alexandra Britton.

Deputies responded shortly before 9 p.m. on Jan. 10 to a home in the 19000 block of American Avenue in Hilmar for a possible homicide, according to authorities.

24 hours and hundreds of feet apart, 2 killings in downtown Turlock. ‘We will not tolerate’

Less than 24 hours after, and just around the corner from, a fatal shooting early Saturday, another deadly shooting took place early Sunday in downtown Turlock. It’s the city’s second homicide of the year, police say.

The Turlock Police Department got a 911 at 1:38 a.m. Sunday reporting a shooting behind the Udder Place and Grand Cru in downtown.

Police: 1 dead, 1 injured after downtown Turlock fight turns into shooting

TURLOCK, Calif. — A man is dead and one is recovering at a hospital after a shooting in Turlock early Saturday morning, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Market Street and South Broadway in Downtown Turlock around 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

40-year-old man wanted for killing his relative, another person in Hilmar

Two people were murdered in Hilmar on Tuesday night and now there's an urgent search for the suspect."This is the last thing you expect to come out of this community.

It's a very tight knit community," Merced County Sheriff's Office Public Relations Coordinator Michelle Oliver said.

Hours-long standoff with teen ends peacefully at Turlock-area center for troubled youth

For three and a half hours Friday, Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies were in a standoff with a 17-year-old boy at a residential facility for youth with behavioral issues south of Turlock.

The incident started around 12:30 p.m. at Aspiranet’s Excell Center on Youngstown Road. Lt. Tom Letras said the teen barricaded himself inside one of the residential areas and began vandalizing it.

Two shootings, two stabbings — one fatal — as Stanislaus County rings in the new year

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day morning were marked with violence in Stanislaus County, including two shootings and two stabbings, one of which was fatal. The latter was Turlock’s second homicide of the holiday weekend and appears to be the first of 2023.

Little has been released about the homicide, which was on the 400 block of East Linwood Avenue.
