Suspect arrested in Turlock homicide case. Victim’s mother said it’s his childhood friend

A suspect in Patterson resident Romeo Xavier Portillo’s homicide case was arrested last week in Georgia, the Turlock Police Department announced in a news release Thursday. Portillo’s mother, Sharon Threadgill, said the suspect was a friend and came to her home multiple times after the shooting.

Gary Harold Jackson Jr., 22, was arrested in Georgia by the Cobb County Police Department, according to the release.

Man wanted by US Marshals arrested after fleeing from officer and hiding in shed Wednesday morning

On Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, at 11:28 am, a Turlock Police officer near 99 Cents Only Stores, 701 N Golden State Blvd, Turlock, observed a driver violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on her.

The officer made contact with and asked the vehicle’s two occupants, driver Reyna Saldivar, 28, of Modesto, and Doroteo Gonzales, 27, of Modesto, to identify themselves.

Modesto hit by apparent Snatch ransomware attack

After recovering from a cyber attack in February that impacted the city's police department and compromised residents' personal information, Modesto appears to be the target of another ransomware attack.

On Monday, Modesto was added to the "victims list" of a ransomware group known as Snatch, according to ThreatMon Ransomware Monitoring , a cyber threat intelligence platform.

“Multiple Drivers Caught Speeding in Merced, Raising Concerns for Public Safety”

Several drivers were caught speeding on Campus Parkway in Merced over the weekend, resulting in multiple citations from the police department. The Merced Police Department reported that three drivers were caught for exceeding the speed limit, with one driver caught going 81 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, another going 95 MPH, and a third going as fast as 118 MPH.

The police department expressed concern about the recklessness displayed by these drivers and emphasized the danger posed by speeding on public roads.

Diocese of Stockton warns of dismissed priest still celebrating Masses

 The Diocese of Stockton is warning of a dismissed priest, accused of sexual abuse, who they say is still performing masses in private venues despite no longer being a member of the clergy.

Bishop Myron Cotta issued the warning Wednesday saying the diocese is aware Leo Suarez is celebrating masses and Quinceañeras in private homes and halls within the six-county Diocese of Stockton region.

Two dead, two injured in south Modesto shooting

Two people are dead and two others injured following a shooting on Lassen Avenue on Wednesday night.

Modesto Police responded to a report of multiple people shot in the 1100 block of Lassen Avenue at around 10:34 p.m. and found four people outside suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a press release.

Man shot in orchard near Turlock. Sheriff’s deputies investigating attempted homicide

An attempted homicide Monday night southeast of Turlock is being investigated by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrol deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of South Daubenberger Road shortly before 9 p.m. on an assault with a deadly weapon call. Google Maps shows the block as having one residential property on the west side of the road, and an orchard on the east.
