Woman arrested in Modesto on attempted murder charges. Police say shooting was not random

A woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shooting a Modesto resident on Saturday night, police said.

Around 8 p.m., police were called about a disturbance on the 700 block of East Fairmont Avenue, just off Sunrise Avenue, where a woman was shot, according to Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

Three men take plea deals in deadly gang-related shootout at Turlock motel

A plea deal has been reached for three men charged in a fatal shootout at a Turlock motel on Labor Day 2020.

The incident, in which more than 20 shots were fired, happened at the Days Inn near Highway 99 and Main Street when a fight broke out between rival gangs in neighboring rooms.

Pedestrian dies in early-morning hit-and-run in Modesto

 A 68-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Modesto on Wednesday morning, according to the Modesto Police Department.

At 6:53 a.m., officers responded to Yosemite Boulevard at Santa Ana Avenue and found Ronald Swindle, 68, of Modesto dead at the scene.

Turlock’s Ladine breaks single-game scoring record

Tuolumne County storm damages rise to $18.2 million

Tuolumne County officials are hopeful that the county will still be added to a federal disaster declaration for California’s recent severe storms, with damages to local public entities now totaling more than $18 million.

Dore Bietz, coordinator of the county Office of Emergency Services, said officials from CalOES and the Federal Emergency Management Agency were in the county this week reviewing and documenting damages.

SF Giants will have another outfielder with Bay Area ties in spring training

It has been one modus operandi of Farhan Zaidi’s to stock the San Francisco Giants’ roster with players who grew up in the baseball-rich Bay Area, and Monday they agreed to bring one more into big league camp this spring.

The latest local is outfielder Stephen Piscotty, who signed a minor-league deal and was one of 37 non-roster players invited to major-league spring training, the team announced.

Possible meteor may have fallen in Merced County

The National Weather Service says a possible meteor fell in Merced County overnight.
