Man dies after being struck by car on Modesto’s Standiford Avenue. Driver arrested

A driver hit and killed a 59-year-old man crossing Standiford Avenue in north Modesto on Tuesday night, according to police. Officers arrested a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said the incident occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. near Standiford and Sherwood avenues, just west of McHenry Avenue.

On Saturday, they both got to share their hobby of restoring classic cars with the community at the 10th Cars and Coffee event hosted by Winton-Ireland, Strom & Green Insurance Agency and sponsored by Haggerty Collector Car Insurance.

Garry Tucker’s burnt orange 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible and Jazlyn Tucker’s deep purple 1967 Camaro were two of the marque cars at Saturday’s event. Jazlyn said she got the car when she was 15.

Parents, what should you know about fentanyl? Event in Turlock this week will have answers

A presentation on fentanyl in the community will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Turlock Junior High School as a part of a Turlock Unified School District family information night.

The event presented by the TUSD Family Resource Center will feature Jennifer Marsh of Stanislaus County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and Sofia Vivo, the sister of a 14-year-old Waterford girl, Bella Vivo, who died from a counterfeit pill containing fentanyl.

PAL fundraiser set to return to Turlock Sports Park

For the second time this year, the Turlock Sports Park will be hosting a fundraiser in support of Turlock’s Police Activities League (PAL), the non-profit organization with the primary goal of promoting a constructive relationship between law enforcement and the youth of Turlock.

Like in May, the Turlock Sports Park will be putting on a three-day, multi-sport camp that allows children to be trained and cheered on by members of local law enforcement.

Parent dies at Turlock High after suffering medical emergency, school district reports

A parent died Monday evening at Turlock High after suffering a medical emergency, according to the Turlock Unified School District.

Firefighters responded at 7:21 p.m. to a report of a person not breathing in a vehicle parked on Berkeley Avenue in a secured area of the high school, according to a Turlock Fire Department incident report and a department spokesman.
