At Modesto protest of ‘comply or die’ policing, loved ones of those killed seek justice

About two dozen family members, friends and advocates of police reform gathered early Saturday afternoon at one of Modesto’s busiest intersections to repeat their call for justice in the July 14 fatal shooting of Paul Chavez by a police officer.

The demonstrators gathered at the northwest corner of Briggsmore and McHenry avenues by the Briggsmore Square Shopping Center.

Judge Grants Continuance for Man in Drug Rehab on Word of Defense Attorney

MODESTO, CA – In a late Friday afternoon early case management conference in Stanislaus County Superior Court, Judge Carrie Stephens agreed to a continuance and not to forfeit Benjamin Forster Tyson’s bail after he failed to appear in court.

The judge made the ruling after Tyson’s attorney Michael Moore explained the accused was busy attending a substance abuse rehabilitation program.

Social media threat against Turlock High School under investigation

TURLOCK – Authorities say they are investigating social media posts around a potential threat at Turlock High School.

Turlock police said on Thursday that they were aware of the postings and that a school resource officer had already identified the student allegedly involved in them.

The massive 1.1 million-square-foot warehouse was built from the ground up at Fulkerth Road and Fransil Lane over the last year and a half.

Downtown Turlock to display Youth Art banners from Carnegie

Turlock’s Carnegie Arts Center (CAC) is opening its 11th exhibition season this fall, and to kick off a new year full of fun and creativity, it held a contest for artwork created by young artists on the theme of “My California” – highlighting something they love about the Golden State.

“Because Turlock is really the heart of our state, we thought an art display in our downtown would be a great way to show what makes California special,” said CAC Director Lisa McDermott. “The response to our banner contest last year was so great, we decided to open up this fun opportunity again.”

Man holding knife to his own throat arrested following standoff in Turlock, deputies say

TURLOCK, Calif. (FOX26) — Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies arrested a man on Tuesday they say ran from a home he was burglarizing and then held them at bay while telling them he did not want to live.

Deputies were called to a home on G and 1st Streets around 1:00 p.m. for the reports of a burglary in progress.

2022’s Homecoming Parade

Following the highly anticipated Harvest Bowl and Homecoming week’s dress-up days was this year’s Homecoming parade. This year’s theme was “We’ve Got the Beat,” and all the participating floats definitely did! Choir, FFA, GSA, Young Americans, NJROTC, and the classes of 2023-2026 all signed up to create their own floats.

There was also a long list of clubs and sports that signed up for walking in the parade, such as Animation Nation, Band, Girls Basketball, Cheer, Cross Country, Games Club, HOSA, HYLC, International Club, Kindness Club, Smart Start, Girls Tennis, and Water Polo.

Comic Con returns to Eureka after 3 year absence

For the first time since 2019, Ohana Comic Con will be hosting a convention this week at the Red Lion Hotel in Eureka this weekend.

Another marijuana bust in Southern Oregon takes nearly 9,000 pounds off the street

JACKSON COUNTY, Oregon — A truck pulling a cargo trailer drew the suspicions of police in Southern Oregon after the driver reportedly committed several traffic violations.

An Oregon State Police trooper pulled over the driver on State Route 62 near Eagle Point on October 12 around 3:00 p.m.  He consented to a search, which uncovered approximately 350 garbage bags of dried, processed marijuana weighing just shy of 9,000 pounds.
