Student grapples Teacher after dispute at Golden Valley High School

An eyebrow raising viral video has been making rounds on social media showing a student engaging in a physical conflict with a teacher at Golden Valley High School in Merced, California. The incident occurred during 5th period on a Friday, and has raised concerns about student and staff safety in the school district.

According to the Merced Union High School District, the scrap started as an argument between a substitute teacher and a student but quickly turned physical.

Ceres teachers honored as finalists for ‘Teacher of the Year’

Two Ceres Unified School District teachers and one employed by the Hughson Unified School District were honored as finalists as 2023 Stanislaus County Teachers of the Year at a May 2 luncheon held at Modesto’s Doubletree Hotel.

Kristina Hart, a teacher at Hidahl Elementary School in Ceres, was one of three finalists in the elementary (K-3) grade level category.

A police investigation is underway near Turlock Junior High School Thursday morning.

Turlock police say the investigation is not related to the school. Still, police are warning the community that people may see a command post and other associated vehicles near the campus.

McSwain Union Elementary closure extended due to flooding

McSwain Union Elementary officials announced the school will remain closed through next Friday, Jan. 20.

The school superintendent says the flooding of both the East and West Campuses continues and there are multiple breaks in the Bear Creek levy, describing the water flow to be ” completely uncontrolled”.

CALIFORNIA, USA — An onslaught of rain and wind devastated many communities across Northern California over the past number of days, however even more is expected heading into Monday.

Early Sunday morning, heavy winds and rain toppled trees and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people across the region. The looming storm has also prompted evacuation warnings in parts of El Dorado County and Sutter County and an evacuation order for the Wilton area of Sacramento County.

Sacramento schools closed Monday as another major storm hits region

The Sacramento City Unified School District has canceled school on Monday as another major winter storm hits the region.

At least six campuses in the district were without power Sunday, district officials wrote in an email to families. District officials “do not expect that power will be restored by tomorrow morning. We have been in close contact with SMUD throughout the day and do not have a timeline for the full restoration of power.”

Turlock’s Academica SC to join United Soccer League

xAcademica Soccer Club of Turlock announced on Thursday morning that their men’s and women’s teams will be joining the United Soccer League (USL) beginning in 2023.

The men’s team will be competing in USL League Two while the women’s squad will be an expansion team in the new USL W League. Academica’s move to the USL comes after five seasons in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

How Modesto, Turlock schools plan to beef up pool security following student drowning

The Turlock Unified School District plans to strengthen its pool security in wake of the drowning of a high school student last weekend, while some other districts in the area also are reviewing their safety policies.

TUSD Director of Communications Marie Russell said changes are coming after the drowning death of Turlock High senior Angel Dominguez Jr. in his school’s pool.
