Man on probation for forgery arrested after attempting to cash fraudulent check Wednesday afternoon

On Wednesday, March 8th, 2023, at 12:50 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported fraud in progress at U.S. Bank, 427 E Olive Ave, Turlock, where a man was attempting to cash a fraudulent check of over $3,000 that appeared to be a photocopy.

Employees attempted to stall the man, however, he eventually left through the back door of the business and got into the passenger seat of a white Ford Expedition being driven by a woman.

Evacuation warning issued for rural Patterson

 A rising San Joaquin River has prompted emergency officials in Stanislaus County to issue an evacuation warning for rural parts of Patterson and Grayson.

The warning covers areas in the immediate vicinity of the San Joaquin River from Grayson Road to Crows Landing Road.

ACE rail expansion runs late, just as Modesto readies its historic downtown depot

The Altamont Corridor Express expects a two-year delay in its expansion into Stanislaus and Sacramento counties.

The first trains will not run until late 2026 under the latest timeline from ACE management. It attributed the delay in part to a complex review process by Union Pacific Railroad, which runs freight trains on the same tracks.

A spokeswoman for UP said it is working with ACE to ensure that the expansion provides for safe and reliable service.

Too young to arrest: CPS called after Turlock 10-year-old allegedly stabs younger brother

A 10-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his younger brother in Turlock following an altercation, according to Turlock police.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on Chestnut Street where police were dispatched to a report of a juvenile stabbed in the chest. A Fire Department incident summary said the wounded child was found sitting in the front yard.

Turlock police arrest suspect in armed robbery of gas station

Turlock police have arrested a suspect in an armed robbery of a gas station in November. The robbery was at the Chevron on East Glenwood Avenue the night of Nov. 23, according to a Turlock Police Department press release. The suspect threatened an employee with a gun, took cash and ran to a waiting getaway vehicle.

3 killed after driver runs stop sign in Modesto

 Three people are dead after a driver ran through a stop sign at a Modesto intersection, officials said Monday.

The California Highway Patrol said a dodge Dodge Ram failed to yield at the intersection of Orange and Elm avenues, driving directly into the path of a Dodge SUV that had three people inside.

Crash leaves three people dead, two injured in Stanislaus County

Three people died and two were hospitalized after a crash involving two vehicles in rural Stanislaus County on Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP’s Modesto office said that around 2:20 p.m., the agency received a call about a crash near Orange Avenue and Elm Avenue, an area that is about 3 miles east of Patterson.
