23 arrested after Patterson police operation in Stanislaus County combatting human trafficking

PATTERSON, Calif. — After a multi-agency effort to combat human trafficking, police in Stanislaus County said 23 people have been arrested.

Patterson Police Service said the multi-agency bust happened on Nov. 6. They worked alongside Turlock Police Department, State Parole, the Stanislaus County Probation Office, Stanislaus County Adult Detention Division, the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Office, Waterford Police Services and Riverbank Police Services.  

"Human Trafficking is a serious issue and everyone should know that we are out actively fighting against it," police services said on their Facebook Sunday night.

Sheriff: Deputies shoot, kill suspect armed with hatchet in Stanislaus County

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — Two deputies were hurt and a suspect was shot and killed by deputies in Stanislaus County early Sunday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the 800 block of Business Park Drive around 4:57 a.m. for reports of a silent burglary alarm, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said.

When they arrived, deputies contacted a man in his 40s who was armed with a hatchet outside of the business.

The shooting happened while deputies tried to take the man into custody. Two of the deputies were hurt and the man was shot in the struggle, officials said.

Modesto PD investigate after possible stabbing leaves man with facial wounds

MODESTO, Calif. — Police are investigating after a man was found with possible stab wounds to the head and face in Modesto on Sunday.

The Modesto Police Department said a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputy found the man with facial wounds around 11:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Calaveras Avenue.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery for fractures and possible stab wounds, police said.

Suspect information is unknown.

Sheriff, Residents Respond To Stanislaus County’s Move To Charge Thieves With Looting Amid Coronavirus Crisis

STANISLAUS COUNTY (CBS13) — The Stanislaus County District Attorney announced that anyone who commits burglary or theft in the county during the coronavirus state of emergency could also be charged with looting.

The announcement came Wednesday from Stanislaus County District Attorney Birgit Fladager. In a press release, Fladager said “anyone who commits a crime of burglary in the second degree, grand theft, or petty theft, in our county, during the state of emergency could be charged with looting in violation of Penal Code 463.”

As of Thursday, the DA’s office said they have filed 21 counts of looting during the state of emergency, 17 of which are felonies against 12 defendants. The remaining four are misdemeanor charges. The arrests came from Modesto, Turlock and Waterford.

“Criminals are criminals and obviously they don’t care about the law anyway,” Stanislaus County Sheriff Jeff Dirkse said.

A Southern California driver intentionally rammed a Toyota Prius with six teenage boys inside, killing three and injuring three others before fleeing, authorities said Monday.
