Rescue crews are searching for a motorist who was reported missing in floodwaters in south Sacramento County.

Dan Quiggle, deputy fire chief for operations for Cosumnes Community Service District Fire Department, said Cosumnes and Wilton fire crews were searching for a missing motorist who was reported washed off Dillard Road near Highway 99 overnight.

Man killed in Christmas Eve crash near Keyes identified as local brewer

A man who was killed in a Christmas Eve crash has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Tyler Klaproth, 40, died in a single-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 99 around 1 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle left the road and hit a tree. The SUV he was driving went off the west edge of 99, near Keyes Road, and into a dirt and grass area before crashing, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Modesto ranked second worst for traffic crashes among cities of similar size in California

Modesto was ranked the second worst for traffic crashes among its peer cities across the state, according to the latest rankings from the California Office of Traffic Safety, sustaining a trend since 2017.

The rankings look at about a dozen types of collisions, including drivers hitting pedestrians, fatal crashes, DUI crashes, hit-and-run and speed-related crashes.

Hilmar man trying to pull into his driveway is killed in traffic collision

A Hilmar man was killed in a traffic collision in front of his home as he tried to pull into his driveway Monday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on Lander Avenue in Hilmar, north of American Avenue, at about 5:40 p.m.

The CHP Sonora area office reported a fatal bicycle crash on State Route 120 just east of Knights Ferry on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2022. The car vs. bicycle accident occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. on SR-120 in the vicinity of Tulloch Dam Road and involved a 2005 Subaru, officials said.

Modesto bicyclist riding along highway near Knights Ferry dies in collision

A 67-year-old man from Modesto who was bicycling along Highway 120 a few miles east of Knights Ferry on Friday morning died after turning into the path of a car and being struck, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Sonora-area office.

The collision happened at about 10:40 a.m., according to the CHP’s online CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.

Update: Man who started fire at his Modesto home to harm himself is in custody, uninjured

Nearly six hours after Modesto police responded to a report of a man having a mental health crisis and threatening suicide at his east Modesto home, he was in custody, uninjured and receiving care.

The incident began about noon, Lt. Felton Payne said. A man alone in his home on the 2400 block of East Orangeburg Avenue said he had a propane tank in his garage that he planned to blow up, authorities said.

Rain, speed a dangerous combination on Modesto area roads, resulting in several crashes

Mother Nature made good on meteorologists’ predictions, dropping nearly three-quarters of an inch of rain in Modesto as of early afternoon Tuesday. Combined with what fell Monday, the area has received 0.69 inches, with more to come.

The wet roads, combined with speeding and other behavior unsafe given the conditions, contributed to several collisions on Election Day.
