Local roundup: Lodi golf third in DI, moves on to Masters

The Lodi High girls golf team placed third at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Tournament on Tuesday at Timber Creek Golf Course in Roseville, securing a place at the section Masters tournament next Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Pleasant Grove won the team standings with a 379, followed by Granite Bay in second with a 387. The Masters takes the top six teams from Division I, and Oak Ridge (396), Folsom (428) and St. Francis (450) filled out those positions.

The U.S. Senior Women’s Open field is headlined by legends: Winners of the U.S. Women’s Open, the U.S. Women’s Amateur, Curtis Cup Team members and inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

But this championship is also the story of the grassroots of the game, the 72 women among the 377 who entered qualifiers at 16 sites and worked their way to this week’s championship at NCR Country Club.

Turlock golf edges out Enochs to win league championship

Turlock High golf was able to hold off Enochs High to win the CCAL Championship. This is the Bulldogs first championship in three years, before that they won 15 straight league titles.

The CCLA Championship was held at the Turlock and Golf Country Club on Monday. Going into the tournament, Turlock had a two-point lead over the second-place team Enochs. Therefore, if Enochs won the tournament and the Bulldogs took second, both schools would be co-champions. Turlock was able to pull out a narrow victory and are in sole possession in first place in the league.

LPGA great Annika Sorenstam co-leads U.S. Senior Women’s Open with a California teaching pro who can’t stop smiling

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Dana Ebster wasn’t sure what to make of the interview area on the porch at Brooklawn Country Club.

“Can we practice first?” she asked as she gingerly stepped up toward the mic. Ebster, by the way, rocked the interview.

Just before Ebster flew across the country to Connecticut, she was up at 6 a.m. pulling carts out at Turlock Golf and Country Club in central California where she runs a junior clinic and works in the pro shop.

Junior Golf Association of Northern California: Turlock’s Van Gaalen, 15, has 76 at Silverado, sweeps awards

Clark Van Gaalen wasn’t about to let a sore right wrist, which he injured about a week ago, stop him from playing at Silverado Resort and Spa.

“I love coming to Silverado,” said Van Gaalen, who is from Turlock in Stanislaus County. “It’s always in great shape. The set-up is always really nice.”

In early July, Van Gaalen won both the boys’ 14-15 age-group division and overall titles at the Johnny Miller “Champ” Junior Championship, a two-day, 36-hole Junior Golf Association of Northern California premier points event at Silverado. He surged right to the top of the leaderboard, shooting a 3-under-par 69 on the South Course and followed that up with a 2-over 74 on the North Course, completing the tournament with a 1-under 143 total.

At the time, it was his sixth age-group win and fourth overall victory of the year.

Latest round of college sponsorships propels Youth on Course over the $1.6 Million marker.

Youth on Course, the non-profit renowned for providing affordable golf – awarded $258,000 in scholarships to 18 high school golf graduates, continuing its commitment to provide youth with access to high-quality education.

This year’s scholarship total is the largest amount awarded by Youth on Course per student to date.
