Highway 99 sees closures from flooding, heavy traffic and jackknifed semi-truck, CHP says

Because of flooding and a jackknifed semi-truck on the southbound side of Highway 99 in Modesto on Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol urged drivers to find other routes.

The pair of incidents caused major delays for commuters, according to the CHP’s Modesto office. By 8:30 a.m. it appeared that both were being addressed. However, the traffic backup was expected to last well after that.

Highway 33 and other roads in Stanislaus County are closed due to local flooding

High river flows and flooding will remain a threat for months in Stanislaus County

The San Joaquin River near Patterson can’t carry much more water without flooding outside its banks.

Nearby residents, watching the river level and the online forecasts Wednesday, were aware the San Joaquin near the Las Palmas Avenue bridge would rise half a foot Thursday because of runoff coming out of Yosemite and the southern Sierra.

McSwain Union Elementary closure extended due to flooding

McSwain Union Elementary officials announced the school will remain closed through next Friday, Jan. 20.

The school superintendent says the flooding of both the East and West Campuses continues and there are multiple breaks in the Bear Creek levy, describing the water flow to be ” completely uncontrolled”.

Storm leaves flooding, fallen tree damage across Modesto area. Here’s what’s ahead

A break on New Year’s Day from wild weather across the Modesto region is allowing flooding on roadways to subside and residents and cleanup crews to remove fallen trees and repair damage.

Flooding remained a danger in some places, though. Residents who went out to East La Loma Park to enjoy the sunny Sunday were asked to leave midafternoon because Dry Creek was flooding, police reported.
