City pulls back on food vendor changes

City leaders have retreated on a proposed ordinance change affecting mobile food vendors as a new one is crafted. On Monday the council cancelled a proposed ordinance change as a committee looking into lifting restrictions is backing away from the idea of unlimited numbers of vendors.

Earlier this year the council signaled it wants to lift the current limit of 10 mobile food vendors with no cap.

Pizza Factory Opens in Turlock, California

The highly anticipated opening marks the brand’s seventh opening of the year and aims to be a permanent go-to spot for the quickly expanding community. Conveniently situated in the thriving retail block at 1865 Countryside Drive, the restaurant will open on September 28.

This Pizza Factory location holds special significance as it marks the brand’s long-awaited return to Turlock. The new spot in town will be owned and operated by Luis Marquez and Sandy Perez, who are building upon the brand’s established roots in the community.

Extended farmers market offers Market Match program

The Turlock Certified Farmers Market will be extending its current season through the end of December, and then re-open two months earlier than usual in March of 2024.

Typically, the market season begins in May and lasts through October.

“This extends the season by two months on each end,” said Nick Schuller, market director for TCFM. “It will be open for 10 months out of the year.”

Shah Groceries now open for business

History of business: It’s been more than eight months since Sukhraaj Singh shared his vision of opening an international grocery store in Turlock, and now the doors at Shah Groceries on 2353 W. Main St. have officially opened.

The new, locally owned and operated grocer will offer products from all parts of India, the Middle East and of select Asian countries.

Meet the Vendors of the Turlock Farmer’s Market

The Turlock Certified Farmers Market, which runs until October 28 on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., features not only fresh produce, but also a variety of other local vendors who grow and craft their own products. From any pickled vegetable imaginable, to honey and mead, to lavender-infused candles, these local goods are sold by small business owners who triumphed over adversity.

One of these vendors is Anatoliy Tsymbal, the owner of Golden-Comb and the two LOZA restaurants.  Tsymbal also sells local honey, a sweet treat and a natural antiseptic that offers a variety of health benefits and is especially useful during cold season.

For the love of mac and cheese

Just over a year after the “I Heart Mac and Cheese” signs were installed at the shopping center at 1205 W. Monte Vista Ave. in Turlock, the fast-growing national chain officially opened their doors to the public on Monday as part of a special ribbon-cutting event alongside the Turlock Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s amazing to finally open and see all these people,” said Ben Bazar, who opened the franchise location alongside his wife, Tracy. “It’s really a dream come true. It’s turning out better than I thought.
