How to check if your vote is counted in California

in Around California

With postal delays expected this election as California conducts more widespread mail-in voting than ever before, many voters are anxious about their ballots being received on time — and counted.

This year, California rolled out a new tool: WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov. It lets voters track their mail ballot from the point it’s sent to them until it’s been accepted and counted by their local elections office.

The site will also let you sign up for email, text or phone call updates on your ballot’s status.

If you haven’t yet mailed your ballot, should you take it directly to a polling location? Not necessarily. This year in California, mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day will still be counted as long as they are received by Nov. 20 — or 17 days after Election Day, compared to the usual three.

The double duty event raised awareness of the Rotary Club’s work in polio eradication efforts and also gave youngsters the chance to paint pumpkins for the Halloween holiday. Visiting the pumpkin patch and finding the right one for painting and taking home was 8-year-old Jacob Platts of Riverbank, who was there with his mom, Kristin. She serves as president of the Riverbank Historical Society and said they were enjoying the chance to get out in the fresh air and support a good cause.

Proceeds of the day were earmarked for three charities: the Children’s Crisis Center of Stanislaus County, VIPS – Visually Impaired Persons Support, and the Salida Rotary.

Millennials worried about our obsession with grass and not just type some smoke

in Around California

It is clear the Manteca Millennial Advisory Committee has a concern about grass.

I’m not talking about their belief it makes sense on a lot of levels — including economically — about Manteca allowing storefront sales of cannabis, the commercial cultivation in non-residential zones, and the transport from legal sellers to buyers.
