Community protests molesters being released in the county

Stanislaus County District Attorney Jeff Laugero said Friday that he’s confident the decision to release two sexually violent predators into the rural Turlock community will be reversed when the issue comes before a judge next month.

Laugero, along with Turlock Police Chief Jason Hedden, state Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson), Sheriff’s Detective Raj Singh, County Supervisor Vito Chiesa, and others, were on hand for a joint press conference in Turlock to address the potential release of sexually violent predators Kevin Scott Gray, 72, and former Ceres resident Timothy Roger Weathers, 61.

Stanislaus County community concerned over release, housing of sexually violent predators

Neighbors in a Stanislaus County community are hoping to stop not one, but two convicted sexually violent predators from moving in.

Neighbors are concerned about two men, Kevin Scott Gray and Timothy Roger Weathers, who could be placed just west of Turlock as the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office says the state recommended the two men be released from the State Hospital.

Police body camera video released of April incident where Turlock officer shot suspect

Police have now released the body camera footage of an April incident in Turlock where officers shot a suspect.

The incident happened April 10 along the 900 block of Vermont Avenue.

Officers had responded to a report of a suspicious person looking into vehicles. That suspect – later identified as 37-year-old Turlock resident Corey Pollard – then ran when an officer tried to approach him, police say.

Another 4,000 marijuana plants seized in Stanislaus County

Nearly two weeks after law enforcement busted thousands of marijuana plants and guns in several Stanislaus County homes, another illegal grow operation was discovered.

On Wednesday, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said it acted on a search warrant at a residence on the 1100 block of North Carpenter Road in Modesto. During the search, “a large illegal marijuana grow was in operation and 4,000 plants were seized.”

Turlock police bust sophisticated black-market cannabis operation across three cities

The Turlock Police Department's S.W.A.T. team and supporting agencies served search warrants in three cities on Tuesday following an investigation into a sophisticated illegal black-market cannabis cultivation operation.

The Special Investigations Unit began the investigation last month, which revealed multiple addresses affiliated with the target location with 5 in the sheriff’s office jurisdiction, 2 in the city of Turlock, and one in the city of Ceres.

TPD visits local businesses to conduct alcohol license inspections

Officers from the Turlock Police Department, in support of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), visited seven ABC licensed businesses on Monday, conducting IMPACT inspections designed to address violations before problems occur.

Officers noted at least one administrative violation at each establishment. A follow-up inspection will be conducted at a later date, giving business owners the opportunity to correct the violation(s).

Police: 2 men caught with more than 400 pieces of stolen mail in Turlock

A man on probation for theft and another man wanted for theft were arrested in Turlock after being caught with over 400 pieces of stolen mail, police said.

In a news release, the Turlock Police Department said an officer responding to a reported mailbox theft at the Park Knolls apartments Tuesday morning spotted a car matching a description that came in.

Teenager shot days before Christmas on Camellia Way in Modesto has died, police say

A 17-year-old girl that was shot in Modesto died at a local hospital on Friday after spending more than a week in critical condition, police said.

The shooting happened on the 100 block of Camellia on Dec. 20. The street block is bordered by Miller Avenue on the north and Highway 132 on the south — near the Modesto Gospel Mission.

33 guns stolen from gun show at Stanislaus County Fairgrounds

 The Turlock Police Department is searching for two suspects who took over 30 guns from a gun show at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds on Dec. 10.

Around 4:30 a.m., police said it received a call from a security guard, who reported to authorities that two armed and masked people entered a building where the gun show was taking place.
