Turlock Together preps for busy holiday season

Community members and local organizations are once again joining forces to bring holiday joy to those across the city.

Turlock Together, a volunteer cooperation of ministries, businesses, non-profits, schools, service clubs and community members working together to collect and distribute food and toys to families in need during the holidays, is in the process of sorting and packaging food boxes ahead of their scheduled Dec. 16 distribution day.

Goodbye Thanksgiving, hello Christmas — and by that, we mean pretty much immediately.

Communities across the Modesto and Mother Lode regions begin celebrating the yuletide season the day right after many of us stuff ourselves with turkey and dressing.

There are a pair of events set for that Friday, with plenty more festivals, parades, tree lightings and other events planned through the rest of November and well into December.

Downtown readies for holiday revelers

With just 12 days until Thanksgiving, that means we’re only 13 days away — less than two weeks — from the annual Friday-after-Thanksgiving tree-lighting ceremony in downtown Turlock.

The holiday season will officially get underway on Nov. 24, when the city’s Christmas tree in Central Park is lit for the first time.

The three-hour downtown event starts at 5 p.m., while the tree will be lit at 6:30 p.m. by Mayor Amy Bublak, for whom the holiday traditions never get old.
