Get your gifts wrapped at the Farmers Market

Don’t have time on your hands to wrap any Christmas presents? Are you simply just bad at wrapping gifts? Well, fear not, as volunteers from Keyes to Learning Charter Academy will be offering free gift wrapping for the next three weeks at the Turlock Certified Farmers Market.

The idea to offer free gift wrapping originated last holiday season when TCFM marketing director Nick Schuller suggested the idea to Lightly Used Books owner Jenni Brannon. The two hosted a day of gift wrapping at the bookstore. This year, Schuller wants to offer the service to more people for more than just a day.

Extended farmers market offers Market Match program

The Turlock Certified Farmers Market will be extending its current season through the end of December, and then re-open two months earlier than usual in March of 2024.

Typically, the market season begins in May and lasts through October.

“This extends the season by two months on each end,” said Nick Schuller, market director for TCFM. “It will be open for 10 months out of the year.”

Inside Turlock’s ‘Freckled Gem’

Walking down Main Street in Turlock on Saturdays during the weekly Turlock Certified Farmers Market, you may sense the smell of eggs and toast in the air. You may also notice that things look a bit lonelier behind the table of popular microgreens stand Drake’s Greens.

This year at the Farmers Market, Drake’s Greens cofounder and co-owner Michelle Green has expanded her reach in downtown by opening the Freckled Gem Café, serving up coffee, gelato, paninis, avocado toast, biscuits and a variety of other breakfast sandwiches. She is located right beside her husband, Sedric, who continues to manage the Drake’s Greens table.

Farmers market provides scholarship for local student

Denair High senior Dakota Rutherford is the 2023 recipient of the Jeani Ferrari Scholarship, provided by the Turlock Certified Farmers Market.

Rutherford, who has been active in FFA throughout her high school career, plans to attend Modesto Junior College in the fall.

“I think my FFA experiences helped me a lot with scholarships and applications,” said Rutherford, who has held an FFA leadership position for the past five years. “I’ve learned all sorts of skills, across the board.”
