Salvation Army receives biggest toy donation yet from local bikers

The streets and sidewalks on and near Lander Avenue in Turlock were shaking Saturday morning as Santa Claus and nearly 300 of his biker friends rolled into the parking lot of the Salvation Army Turlock Corps. to deliver Christmas gifts to local children in need for the fourth straight year.

The hundreds of bikers are members of the United Motorcycle Clubs. They come from across the Central Valley to do community service projects. This year’s toy dropoff saw the biggest turnout of bikers and the most toys donated.

Airline donates retired jetliner to local college. How will students use the aircraft?

A local trade college now has students in its aviation maintenance program in Fresno receiving invaluable hands-on experience – and potentially a head-start in their professional careers – following an airline’s donation of a retired jetliner to the school.

Utah-based SkyWest Airlines, which has a maintenance base at Fresno Yosemite International Airport, offered the Bombardier CRJ200 regional jet to San Joaquin Valley College. Although the 50-seat aircraft is 23 years old, it is nearly identical in its airframe and systems to many of the other jets that remain active in the airline’s fleet.

Turlock Police officers donate money to replace 7-year-old’s stolen wheelchair

A Turlock family can now purchase a new wheelchair for a 7-year-old girl after officers donated $1,000.

According to the Turlock Police Department, a thief stole a wheelchair belonging to 7-year-old Miracle Melgoza. When members of the Turlock Police Officers Association heard about the theft, they decided to come together to help Melgoza's family purchase a new wheelchair.
