10 years of Cars and Coffee

in Community/Events/News

Like many fathers and daughters Garry and Jazlyn Tucker spend time on a shared hobby. On Saturday, they both got to share their hobby of restoring classic cars with the community at the 10th Cars and Coffee event hosted by Winton-Ireland, Strom & Green Insurance Agency and sponsored by Haggerty Collector Car Insurance.

Garry Tucker’s burnt orange 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible and Jazlyn Tucker’s deep purple 1967 Camaro were two of the marque cars at Saturday’s event. Jazlyn said she got the car when she was 15.

JavaView: National Coffee Month

in Food & Drinks

August is National Coffee Month and if you are like me, you start your day off with a cup of coffee, I am and have been a serious coffee drinker my entire life, I buy whole beans and grind fresh daily(no Folger’s Crystals for me). Back in the nineties when friends would be out at the bars drinking I would be at a coffee shop(even going on trips to find cool cafes around the region.) I am even part of a rock n’ roll coffee-drinking gang(let’s call it a club)the US Mugs whose motto is Death Before Decaf. If I am addicted to anything it would be caffeine and music.

Those living in Modesto are pretty fortunate to have so many great locally owned cafes to choose from.

These Are The Only States Where Dunkin’ Fans Can Try Its New Add-Ins

in Food & Drinks

From its salted caramel cold foam to mocha swirl, Dunkin' has a handful of customization options for those who simply don't want to order their coffee straight off the menu. But just when you think Dunkin' can't offer more — they do. The chain has released three add-ins: Antioxidant, Prebiotic, and Extra Charged (via Elite Daily). And these liquid "Boosters" add exactly the benefit they are each named for.

The Antioxidant and Prebiotic add-ins are definitely more health-oriented, with the Antioxidant providing customers with Vitamin E and zinc, and the Prebiotic aiding in digestion, thanks to it containing soluble fiber. And though Dunkin' has had beverages in the past that have extra caffeine (cue the Extra Charged Coffee and the Energy Cold Brew), just a pump of the Extra Charged Booster in a drink will give it a 20% extra boost.

It started with a pop-up table. Now Modesto farmers market favorite has its own cafe

in Food/Food & Drinks

Jamie Griswold started with a pop-up table and a love for coffee.

In fact, her plucky pop-up the Culture Coffee Bar was one of the first new ventures I wrote about when I returned to writing the Business Beat in 2017. Then, that humble table turned into a 16-foot trailer, which has been a staple at the Modesto Certified Farmers Market since 2020.

Now, some five years after she first stood outside her former gym with two large coffee carafes, the Downey High graduate has completed her journey and opened her first brick-and-mortar cafe.

Dutch Bros. plans Ripon coffee spot

in Around California

Dutch Bros. could soon be coming to Ripon.

At Monday’s Planning Commission meeting, Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart mentioned that the privately-owned coffee chain based in Oregon is looking at the Save Mart shopping center to set up shop.

Dutch Bros.’ application is scheduled for review at the December meeting.

“(Dutch Brothers) would like to go on a small pad adjacent to the entrance of the Save Mart shopping center over by Domino’s Pizza,” said Zuidervaart.

He indicated that some of the plans such as the dual drive-thru service – capable of accommodating up to 17 cars – and possible traffic concerns in the area of West Colony Road and Brady Lane are still being ironed out.

Coyotes Cup of Kindness still serving through pandemic

in business

After two successful years serving coffee, tea and more to the Denair Unified School District campus community and beyond, the 2020-2021 school year looks a little bit different for Coyotes Cup of Kindness.

Since starting the mobile coffee cart in the fall of 2018, Denair High School paraprofessional Destiny Silva has become accustomed to a crew of highly capable and extremely motivated special education students taking the reins to the business each morning, helping customers with their orders, counting change, preparing drinks and more. These days, however, the cart is a lonelier place as she is its sole worker.

Dutch Bros Coffee opens to frenzy in Turlock

in business

Dutch Bros Coffee opened its highly-anticipated Turlock location over the weekend, bringing java, jubilation and traffic jams to the corner of Monte Vista Avenue and Crowell Road.

The country’s largest privately-owned drive-thru coffee company began construction on its new location earlier this year and is one of several in the area owned and operated by Isaac and Amy Schaaf. The husband and wife also own the Dutch Bros in Oakdale, which coincidentally opened over Labor Day weekend last year, as well as the future Modesto location scheduled for an October opening.

Dutch Bros is known for its massive menu of drinks, which includes everything from coffee and smoothies to teas and sodas. There are over 10,000 drink combinations to choose from, but Isaac Schaaf noted that the Rebel Energy drinks and the seasonal crème brûlée pumpkin cold brew are among the shop’s best sellers.
