Stanislaus hospital faces closure after Medicare decision. County, federal support sought

Stanislaus Surgical Hospital of Modesto notified the county last week that the hospital is likely to close April 30 for an undetermined time, due to a federal agency decision to remove it from the Medicare program.

Maria Munoz, human resources director for Stanislaus Surgical, informed Stanislaus County’s chief executive office that almost 200 employee layoffs are anticipated. The hospital said it was aggressively challenging the decision by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which said the hospital failed to comply with nine conditions of participation in Medicare.

Where will patients go for care if this Stanislaus County specialty clinic is closed?

Medical services such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery and diabetic management would be eliminated as the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency continues to take a smaller role in clinical services for low-income residents.

The county Board of Supervisors is being asked Tuesday to set an April 16 public hearing on proposals that would close the county’s specialty clinic in the black-glass building on McHenry Avenue, turn over the Paradise Medical Office in west Modesto to Golden Valley Health Centers and eliminate obstetrical care at the county’s McHenry Medical Office on Woodrow Avenue.

Turlock nursing home to close citing costs, workforce challenges

Dozens of seniors are now looking for a new place stay as their nursing home in Turlock prepares to close.

Brandel Manor is a 145-bed facility providing post-acute, long-term care and assisted living. The facility notified residents and families about their upcoming closure on Jan. 15.

Red Cross to permanently close Sonora blood bank next month

The Sonora Red Cross Blood and Platelet Donation Center at Greenley and Sanguinetti roads will close effective Sept. 23 because it’s “among the top high-cost Red Cross Donation Centers in the country,” the nonprofit American Red Cross recently told donors in Tuolumne County.

In an email sent to donors earlier this month, the national organization said the Sonora blood bank “has struggled to collect blood products despite the best efforts of staff and dedicated donors.”

California’s Great America Amusement Park will close in 2033

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KION)- California’s Great America Amusement Park will soon close its doors in Santa Clara. The seller of the property Cedar Fair L.P. states all of this is due to bring down the parks debt.

The amusement park was sold for a total of 310 million from Bay Area buyer Prologis Inc.

Cedat Fair said it first began looking into maximizing the value of its existing properties back in 2021. Thankfully people can still enjoy the park until the year 2033.
