Football roundup: Trojans triumph in Turlock

Oak Ridge is the lone local football squad still hunting a Sac-Joaquin Section championship.

In Division 6 playoffs, sixth-seeded Union Mine traveled to Sacramento to face third-seeded Bradshaw Christian Friday, Nov. 10. The Diamondbacks were held to a single touchdown as the Pride rallied 41 points, bringing Union Mine's playoff run to an end.

Seen & Heard on Planet Coug: Blazing Louie Hinchliffe going for NCAA 100M gold

WASHINGTON STATE SPRINTER Louie Hinchliffe (pictured on the front page with this story), competes in the NCAA Track and Field Championships this week in the 100-meter dash in Austin, Texas, (June 7-10). At the NCAA West Preliminary Round this past week, Hinchliffe -- only a freshman -- tied the WSU track and field program record with a blazing 10.17 time in the 100M (Anson Henry, 2002). Hinchliffe already owns the WSU freshman records in the 60M and 100M, and now takes aim at the top of the record books.

Whitney girl soars to school’s first CIF state track and field championship to lead locals

The goal for Sacramento-area athletes was to reach the medal stand Saturday night in the 103rd CIF State Track & Field Championships in Clovis.

The highest step belonged to a local champion from Placer County who went out on top at Whitney High School.

The U.S. Senior Women’s Open field is headlined by legends: Winners of the U.S. Women’s Open, the U.S. Women’s Amateur, Curtis Cup Team members and inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

But this championship is also the story of the grassroots of the game, the 72 women among the 377 who entered qualifiers at 16 sites and worked their way to this week’s championship at NCR Country Club.
