Man seriously injured and a child is flown to hospital after McHenry Avenue crash

A man suffered major injuries and a child was airlifted to a hospital following a crash Friday at McHenry and Claratina avenues.

The man was driving a 1949 Dodge Coupe north on McHenry about 11 a.m. when it collided with a Honda Civic going south on McHenry, making an eastbound turn onto Claratina, Modesto police Lt. Martha Delgado said.

Man beaten by group with bars and bats after altercation at house party early Friday morning

On Friday, May 12th, 2023, at 12:50 am, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported aggravated assault that had just occurred in the alleyway behind a residence in the 300 block of S Broadway, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a 33-year-old man who had been beaten with bars and bats by a group of several subjects who had all fled the scene.

Modesto may be the place to be for car enthusiasts in the month of June, but come July downtown Turlock is a beacon of classic chrome for the annual 4th of July Parade and Car Show.

Applications are now being accepted for entries into the parade and car show, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 1.

Why Turlock will begin disinfecting city water next week, and what residents should know

Turlock will begin chlorination treatment of its drinking water next week.

A city news release Wednesday said the chlorination program to improve water quality will begin May 17.

Staff said the city is not treating the water for any contaminants but is raising the water quality to state-mandated levels.

Ceres teachers honored as finalists for ‘Teacher of the Year’

Two Ceres Unified School District teachers and one employed by the Hughson Unified School District were honored as finalists as 2023 Stanislaus County Teachers of the Year at a May 2 luncheon held at Modesto’s Doubletree Hotel.

Kristina Hart, a teacher at Hidahl Elementary School in Ceres, was one of three finalists in the elementary (K-3) grade level category.

Lessons in cyber security available for local businesses

Top FBI and law enforcement experts from across California will be coming to the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock this Thursday to co-host a free cyber security seminar.

Tabbed as the “Cybersecurity Seminar,” the event is a collaboration between the City of Turlock, the Turlock Chamber of Commerce and the Stanislaus Latino Chamber of Commerce. Speakers include Alexander Schmidt from the FBI Sacramento Cyber Task Force, Marc Coopwood, Vice President Public Sector for Apex Technology Management, and George Passidakis, Director of Sales and Marketing for Apex Technology Management.

If you’re a part of the Bay Area’s thriving jujitsu scene, there’s a chance the founder of Facebook will pin you to the floor.

Mark Zuckerberg competed in his first jujitsu tournament Saturday in Woodside, walking away with gold and silver medals for the local Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu team, with which he trains. He shared news of the win with his 11.3 million Instagram followers, posting photos of him posing with his coaches, grappling with opponents and pensively strolling onto a mat.

License plate-reading cameras will watch for stolen vehicles in Turlock. Here’s where

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and Turlock are entering an agreement to use automated license-plate readers at six locations in the city.

Turlock will join an automated reader system that’s used in cities that contract for sheriff’s service, including Hughson, Patterson and Waterford.

Fentanyl claimed the life of a Stanislaus County girl. Her sister keeps her memory alive

Isabella Marie Vivo would light up every room, was funny and energetic, family members said. She was a cheerleader for youth sports, played volleyball in middle school and sang the national anthem before Waterford High basketball games.

But tragedy struck Aug. 24, 2021, when the 14-year-old gathered with friends and they experimented with drugs. She became one of the 5,722 Californians who died that year from fentanyl poisoning.
