New Free Telehealth Program Offers Services for ‘The Forgotten Middle’

A no-cost telehealth program is now available for local residents thanks to a partnership with Legacy Health Endowment and virtual healthcare provider Hello Alpha.

Known as Sonja Cares, the program started offering free telehealth services for 1,500 local residents on Monday. The program will last for one full year, with each participant eligible for up to 12 telehealth consultations. Services encompass primary care, urgent care, women’s healthcare, and more.

The truckers and warehouse workers at Dot Foods can now get basic health care right at the south Modesto business.

So can their spouses and children, under a concept that Dot is spreading across its 12 distribution centers in the United States, at minimal cost to families.

The company expects that about 400 local employees and dependents will use the Dot Foods Family Health Center. It opened in a 1,440-square-foot modular building in late March and had a belated ribbon-cutting Wednesday.

“If you’re feeling under the weather, coming here is what we want you to do,” said Matt Holt, vice president of human resources for Dot.

The Lower Health Care Costs Act in Congress would allow insurance providers to continue denying claims for life saving air ambulances that many across California, especially those in rural areas, rely on. Lack of proper reimbursement for this service will also force more rural air bases to close at a time when rural hospitals are already facing increasing closures.
