With more than $130,000 raised prior to the actual 24-hour Relay For Life this past weekend at John Thurman Field in Modesto, the 2023 event far surpassed its $150,000 fundraising goal.
By the time the closing ceremony was staged on Sunday, Oct. 1, teams involved in the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser had gone over $161,000, with more donations still anticipated. At press time, the total had surpassed $166,000. Top fundraising team was Conagra Oakdale Fights Back, with the Oakdale team bringing in more than $25,000. Conagra also served as the presenting sponsor for 2023.

With a 2023 fundraising goal of $150,000 and the “Relay for Life” of Greater Stanislaus County coming up this weekend, teams are making a final push for the event.
Staged at John Thurman Field in Modesto, the American Cancer Society signature event brings together teams from throughout Stanislaus County as well as some from San Joaquin County as well.

Usually, the phrase “dropping the ball” has a negative connotation, but that’s not the case for the Ball Drop for Turlock.
The fourth annual event, rebranded this year as the Ball Drop for Turlock, will be held Oct. 21 at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.
Money is raised for local charities — Adult & Teen Challenge, Turlock Gospel Mission, the Salvation Army and the Police Activities League — by selling individual golf balls for $25 apiece. Essentially, it’s a round, dimpled lottery ticket.
Every year, fireworks booths pop up around every city ahead of Fourth of July celebrations. Each booth is ran by local organizations and are major fundraising opportunities.
Kiwanis of Turlock is one of the oldest organizations to participate in fireworks fundraising, and it’s one of their biggest money makers of the entire year.
“We’ve been doing this for a while,” said Kiwanis member David Martin. “We are one of Phantom’s biggest sellers in the region and it’s by far one of our biggest fundraisers.”
While the fireworks sales help Kiwanis immensely, they aren’t just raising money for themselves.
