Oakdale hosting its 30th annual Chocolate Festival this weekend

OAKDALE, Calif. — The Oakdale Chamber of commerce is gearing up for its 30th annual Chocolate Festival being held this weekend at Williams Meyer Park in Oakdale.

This family-fun event will be held May 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature a massive amount of sweet chocolate treats to enjoy including fudges, truffles, chocolate ice cream, chocolate cheesecake and much more.

Portuguese Fest returns to Turlock fairgrounds

All things Portuguese will be celebrated this weekend at the third annual San Joaquin Valley Portuguese Festival being held at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.

“The celebration is open to everyone to come discover the culture and heritage of the Portuguese people and honor their contributions to the San Joaquin Valley and the state of California,” said Julio Valadez of the Carlos Vieira Foundation, one of the event’s sponsors. “This family-friendly event will showcase traditional Portuguese dancing, music and cuisine.”

First annual California State Parks Week kicks off in June

Sacramento, CA–The first annual California State Parks Week will kick off this June throughout the state, officials said.

The public is invited to celebrate the first annual California State Parks Week, June 14 to 18, presented by California State Parks, Save the Redwoods League, Parks California, and the California State Parks Foundation.

Through special community events and in-person and virtual programming, the inaugural event celebrates California’s 279 state parks and the people who visit and help protect these iconic places.

Sacramento, Calif. – The California State Fair returns to Sacramento in 2022! Cal Expo’s Board of Directors announced that the event will be back in 2022, running from July 15 through July 31.

“We are thrilled to announce that the California State Fair will come roaring back in 2022,” said Jess Durfee, Chair of the Cal Expo Board of Directors. “While Cal Expo has been honored to provide support and much-needed aid to Californians during this health crisis, our region and state have greatly missed the excitement of the State Fair.”

Downtown scavenger hunt promises ‘pot of gold’

St. Patrick’s Day fun is on the way for Turlockers in need of some luck, courtesy of a downtown scavenger hunt with prizes you’d be sure to find at the end of a rainbow. 

Over 20 downtown businesses have come together for the Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt — a three-day event featuring more than one way to win. Jennifer Brannon, owner of Lightly Used Books, said the idea for a scavenger hunt came during a monthly meeting between downtown businesses owners.

“We’ve been trying to discuss what we can do to help bring that vibrancy back into our downtown community,” Brannon said. “We want to remind people that we’re here, and we thought a St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt would be a fun way to get people to come do something as a community again.”

Big names in music to play Fruit Yard in Modesto. See when, who are planned so far

You’ll hear plenty of country in the country at Modesto’s Fruit Yard Amphitheatre this season.

Five performers, all from the country music scene, have been announced for the rural venue.

The first show is set for April 8, a concert by the band Midland. Tickets are on sale now for all of the shows. A performance by Lee Brice already has sold out.

More events are expected to be added for the season, according to an email from the venue’s marketing firm.

EG beer and wine showcase coming to Old Town

Uncorked & Uncapped, a festival that spotlights Elk Grove’s breweries and wineries, will debut in Old Town Elk Grove on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The VIP early admission passes are sold out, but general admission and designated driver tickets will continue to be sold through Sept. 22.

On tap are all of Elk Grove’s five breweries as well as five local wineries. The Turlock-based Dust Bowl Brewing Company will also serve samples of their ales at the festival. They plan to open a 3,000-square foot taproom on Railroad Street, next to the Old Town Plaza, later this fall.

Soarin’ Over California returns for another limited run during Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival

If you didn’t get your fill of Soarin’ Over California last summer you’ll get another chance to hang glide over Napa Valley, Monterey Bay and Redwood Creek when the classic version of the flight simulator ride returns to Disney California Adventure for another limited-time run.

Soarin’ Over California will return Feb. 28 to April 21 during the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival at the Anaheim theme park, according to Disney officials. An end date for Soarin’ Over California hasn’t been confirmed yet, Disney officials said.
