Turlock mayor faces reelection challenge; fields of newcomers contend for council seats

In the most crowded field since Turlock started district-based elections for City Council in 2016, eight candidates are vying for three seats.

Turlock voters will elect their mayor and pick two of six candidates to fill seats for Districts 1 and 3, where incumbents Nicole Larson and Andrew Nosrati are not running for reelection.

Ensuring Fair Elections Topic For AAUW Session

Love it or hate it – campaign season is here again and who better to inform voters about the fairness of the election process in Stanislaus County than Donna Linder, Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters.

Having personally worked on 49 elections over the past 19 years of her career, Ms. Linder is unquestionably qualified to talk on the topic of “Ensuring Fair Elections” – and she will do just that when she addresses a joint meeting of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon and Turlock-Modesto Branches on Thursday, October 13th at 7 p.m.

Turlock has $15 million for affordable housing. Why isn’t the city spending the money?

Turlock needs more housing. In 2015, as part of a state-mandated process, the city set out to build 3,618 units by the end of 2023 to keep up with demand. Nearly 40% of those new units were meant to be affordable.

But Turlock has struggled to meet those affordable housing goals for years, and now the City Council is divided on how to solve the problem.

Wildfire Resilience, Central Valley Police Funding Due

In a busy legislative week, local Congressman Josh Harder announced some new funding for programs to benefit firefighting efforts and police departments in California.

On Friday, Sept. 23 Representative Harder announced that the Department of the Interior has invested over $7.5 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to clean 9,969 acres of federal land across California, drastically reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfires.

California gas refund payments are arriving soon. See if you’re eligible

Californians who qualify for the state's gas price relief program should start to see their payments in the next few weeks.

The $9.5 billion tax refund will provide one-time payments of up to $1,050. Gov. Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers reached a deal for the refunds back in June, when gas prices were shattering records at or above $7 a gallon.
