Local basketball teams await playoff seeding after strong regular seasons

Although they are crosstown rivals, the girls basketball programs of Turlock High and Pitman High must stand beside each other atop the Central California Athletic League standings and share the league championship after they each finished their regular seasons with 8-2 records. There won’t be any bragging rights on the side, either, as they split head-to-head matchups 1-1.

For the Bulldogs, it is their second consecutive 8-2 season, though it’s their first league title since the 2018-2019 campaign. It’s also their first league title under head coach Erica Hernandez. Pitman head coach Parmine Randhawa is celebrating the same milestone.

“Nothing would be finer than to be a 49er!”

That is the arrangement of letters placed on a giant sign of a local muffler shop that 10-year Danny Phantom had to walk past as he went to school on a cold morning day in Turlock, California right after the San Francisco 49ers had just defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the 1981 NFC Championship game. Needless to say, it wasn’t a fun way to start the morning.

TC offense comes alive in first game of NorCals

The Turlock Christian baseball team kept the good times rolling as they took down the Mendota Aztecs in the opening game of the Division V CIF Northern California Regional playoffs. The Eagles once again saw a stellar pitching performance from junior Gavin Farinha, who tossed six shutout frames.

Farinha dominating for TC is nothing new to the rest of the team, but a major difference in Tuesday night’s contest was run support. After scoring one run in the section championship game, the Eagles offense exploded to score six against Mendota.
