Modesto’s first-ever Filipino food truck was started by friends. Here’s what’s on the menu

Stanislaus County’s first-ever Filipino food truck has opened in Modesto, bringing more of the rich flavors of the southeast Asian nation to the Valley.

The new food trailer, Filipino Corner , opened June 11 at the corner of McHenry Avenue and Meily Way in north Modesto. The small space serves up big, authentic flavors from two church friends who saw an opportunity in the region.

Food truck park proposed for downtown Turlock

Over three acres of food and fun could soon be coming to downtown Turlock as Torre Reich Construction has submitted to the City plans for a new food truck park.

The construction company is spearheading plans to develop two parcels at 576 S. Center St. and 590 S. Golden State Blvd. so that they can host food trucks, live entertainment, retail vendors and more — a project called Trax Food Park.

Torre Reich Construction project coordinator Jenn Weenk said the proposed project came from a desire to provide another family-friendly entertainment facility in Turlock.

Downtown Modesto gets sweeter. Owners of popular restaurant to open next-door bakery

They met in a bakeshop and now they’re going to own one.

Husband-and-wife team Hank and Ashley Olson have come a long way since they met at their culinary school bakeshop. Now, a dozen years, four children, one food truck and a restaurant later, they’re about to accomplish their shared culinary dreams together.

Seven years ago, they started humbly, opening the Food Fix Truck painted bright orange in what would become their signature color. The truck became a hit on Modesto streets, attracted celebrity endorsements with visits from famous TV chefs like Alton Brown and even was featured on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”

Four years later, the Olsons took the next step, a big one, and opened Food Fix Butcher & Baker on 11th Street in the heart of downtown Modesto. The brick-and-mortar restaurant, ironically built in the hull of a failed bakery-restaurant combo, was another labor of love the two embarked on together.

Two childhood friends are hoping to cure Turlock’s sweet tooth with their new food truck, which puts a unique twist on a timeless Mexican classic.

Anne DiGrazia and Martha Jauregui both grew up on Turlock’s Westside, where their 25-year friendship first began. As children, they spent plenty of time looking forward to visits from the pan dulce truck and often indulged in the Mexican treat also known as sweet bread, or concha.
