New California festival to bring tamales, margaritas — and a job fair — to Stanislaus County

Who doesn’t love a good tamale, or making money? Stanislaus County residents can get their fair share of the Mesoamerican treat at the inaugural California Tamale Festival in the fall — and maybe even get a job in the process.

Riverbank resident Armando Duldulao is putting on the event, which will take place Oct. 15 between noon and 7 p.m. at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock. Aside from a host of activities and entertainment (and plenty of shopping), visitors can attend a job fair that will be held during the event.

OAKDALE, Calif. — The Oakdale Chamber of commerce is gearing up for its 30th annual Chocolate Festival being held this weekend at Williams Meyer Park in Oakdale.

This family-fun event will be held May 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature a massive amount of sweet chocolate treats to enjoy including fudges, truffles, chocolate ice cream, chocolate cheesecake and much more.

Canceled since COVID, popular music fest returns to Modesto; more events planned for May

Festivals and events will spring up across the Modesto area in May.

Among them will be the return of the popular Modesto Porchfest, which has not been held since the pandemic hit.

During Porchfest, local bands perform outside at host neighborhood homes while people gather to listen, many roaming on foot or by bike.

And just before May begins, there’s another festival set for taco lovers.

Napa Lighted Art Festival: Jan. 15-March 13, downtown Napa and the Oxbow District. Enjoy eight, spectacular lighted art installations from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday-Sunday, plus artist meet-and-greets, a community art project by Children’s Museum Napa Valley and a one-night music performance by Festival Napa Valley. San Francisco Chinese New Year Festival and Parade: Jan. 29-March 6. Soarin’ Over California returns for another limited run during Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival

If you didn’t get your fill of Soarin’ Over California last summer you’ll get another chance to hang glide over Napa Valley, Monterey Bay and Redwood Creek when the classic version of the flight simulator ride returns to Disney California Adventure for another limited-time run.

Soarin’ Over California will return Feb. 28 to April 21 during the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival at the Anaheim theme park, according to Disney officials. An end date for Soarin’ Over California hasn’t been confirmed yet, Disney officials said.
