RECENT OPENINGS & PLACES TO TRY

A bookstore has arrived in the old Forever 21 space. Chick-fil-A has opened near Farmer Boys at Tuolumne and Countryside. Del Taco has a new Monte Vista Avenue location. Turlock’s 2026 openings also include an independent Mediterranean kitchen on Geer Road and indoor golf on Golden State Boulevard.

Several of the new businesses cluster along Countryside Drive in northwest Turlock.

Barnes & Noble: a bookstore at Monte Vista Crossings

2693 Countryside Drive, Turlock · Store hours and events

Barnes & Noble opened on June 10, 2026 in Monte Vista Crossings, taking over the former Forever 21 space beside Rack Room Shoes. The company describes a store of more than 18,000 square feet, with books alongside toys, games, magazines, gifts and vinyl.

The opening had a local author connection: romance writer Meagan Brandy joined the ribbon cutting and signed books. It also filled a gap. The Turlock Journal’s preview recalled Borders’ 2011 closure and the loss of Lightly Used Books in March 2025.

The Turlock store page lists author visits and other store events alongside its regular hours.

Chick-fil-A: the first tenant at Turlock Marketplace

2630 W. Tuolumne Road, Turlock · Official menu, hours and visit information

The city’s August 6, 2026 opening report identifies this as Stanislaus County’s first Chick-fil-A and the first business to open at Turlock Marketplace. The restaurant sits at the southwest corner of West Tuolumne Road and Countryside Drive, in a different development from Monte Vista Crossings.

Christine Murphy is the local owner-operator. The local restaurant website provides app-ordering and catering links. The posted schedule is Monday–Saturday, 6:30 a.m.–11 p.m.; it is closed on Sundays.

Del Taco: a new stop on West Monte Vista

2705 W. Monte Vista Avenue, Turlock · Official menu, hours and visit information

Del Taco’s new Monte Vista Avenue restaurant is open, with a September 25, 2026 grand opening and ribbon cutting recorded by the Turlock Chamber.

The official location page is the useful one for ordering, delivery and current hours. Alongside the tacos and burritos, the chain’s menu includes burgers and fries, so it can cover a mixed carload’s quick-meal preferences. Use the Monte Vista address: older Turlock listings point to a former Del Taco on Fulkerth Road.

Zalata Kitchen: an independent addition on Geer Road

2679 Geer Road, Turlock · Official menu, hours and visit information

Zalata Kitchen opened in spring 2026 at University Plaza, next door to Corn’d Korean Corndogs. Its menu includes salads, bowls, sandwiches and wraps, with cold-pressed juices, matcha and cold brew. The official site has the current menu and ordering options.

Owner Romeo Esho is already familiar to people who followed Cafe Rome and Corn’d. In the Journal’s opening story, he explained that “zalata” means salad in Assyrian. The name connects the new kitchen to Turlock’s Assyrian community.

Back Nine Golf: an indoor round on Golden State

693 N. Golden State Boulevard, Turlock · Tee times, lessons and membership

The Chamber recorded Back Nine Golf’s grand opening on September 13, 2026. The Turlock location uses Full Swing simulators for indoor golf and offers tee times, lessons and memberships.

You do not have to buy a membership to try it: the Turlock booking page explicitly welcomes nonmember reservations. Book a public tee time through the website; membership access is arranged separately. For a different group outing nearby, Ten Pin Fun Center combines bowling, an arcade, laser tag and a restaurant.

Farmer Boys: all-day breakfast on Tuolumne

2530 W. Tuolumne Road, Turlock · Official menu, hours and visit information

Farmer Boys belongs on the local dining list, but its Turlock opening was in September 2019. It was the first establishment in Turlock Corners Retail Plaza, at the southeast corner of Tuolumne Road and Countryside Drive.

Burgers and all-day breakfast are its main draws. The current restaurant listing confirms a drive-through, online ordering, delivery and nonprofit fundraising options. Local nonprofit groups can use the fundraising link to arrange an event.

The shopping-center names can be confusing
