PLACES & EVERYDAY TURLOCK

Geer Road is one of Turlock’s everyday meeting places: cake pickups, grocery carts, a restaurant dinner and students heading toward campus. Its signs have changed over the years, but that mix of uses keeps the street busy.

Updated 2026.

Where Geer fits

Geer runs north from the Golden State Boulevard junction and along the east side of Stanislaus State. The city’s planning study identifies it as a major commercial corridor. It is useful to think of it in stretches: the Town Center end, the shops around Hawkeye and Tuolumne, and the university area around Monte Vista.

Stops with a reason to return

  • Olde Tyme Pastries, 2225 Geer Road. A full-line bakery with breads, cakes, pastries, deli food and espresso. Its current site is the place for orders and hours.
  • Villa Napoli, 1102 Geer Road. An Italian restaurant offering pasta, wine, reservations and catering. Use the restaurant’s menu to plan a sit-down stop.
  • Walmart Neighborhood Market, 2480 Geer Road. The official store listing identifies this as the Geer Road grocery location. It is separate from the larger Walmart on Fulkerth Road.

The old storefronts behind today’s errands

Olde Tyme opened on May 1, 1981. The Journal’s anniversary story explains that it began in the back of Geer Gardens before moving forward to its present location. That is a useful reminder that a business can be longstanding even when its particular storefront is newer.

The grocery market carries another layer of retail history. Contemporary 2013 reporting identified the Walmart project with the former Mervyn’s site. A department-store destination became a place for daily groceries. Nearby centers have their own histories; see the shopping-center directory for their names and individual guides.

Campus is a separate stop

Stanislaus State’s main campus address is One University Circle. Geer borders the campus, but a street-side glimpse is different from exploring its grounds. The university’s campus maps show the buildings and parking areas.

Geer is changing again

In August 2026, the city awarded the Geer Road rehabilitation contract for the corridor from Golden State Boulevard to Taylor Road. Planned work includes pavement, sidewalks, crossings and buffered bike lanes. Completion is anticipated in early to mid-2028. The city’s updates give the current traffic arrangements while the project moves through construction.
