BAKERY, DELI & ESPRESSO BAR
Pineapple cream cheese coffee cake is a good introduction to Olde Tyme. So is a custom birthday cake—or a sandwich on bread baked in the same kitchen. This Geer Road bakery has served Turlock since 1981, with a history that reaches from its founding family to a longtime cake decorator who became its owner.

Where it is, and what kind of stop it makes
Olde Tyme Pastries is at 2225 Geer Road. The bakery is open Monday–Friday, 6:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.; and Sunday, 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m. Call 209-668-0928 for orders.
The deli has a shorter service window: the bakery’s FAQ lists lunch from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Sunday. An afternoon cake pickup and an afternoon sandwich run therefore need slightly different timing. Our Geer Road guide places it in the surrounding shopping corridor.
Start with the pastry case
The pastry collection ranges well beyond doughnuts. It includes Danish, turnovers, kolache, walnut baklava, fruit-filled pockets, bars, muffins and scones. Pineapple cream cheese appears in both a Danish and a coffee cake; the scone list includes apricot white chocolate and cranberry pecan.
Some choices follow a weekly rhythm. The bakery lists banana-nut gourmet muffins on Mondays, zucchini-nut on Tuesdays, chocolate cream cheese on Thursdays and raspberry cream cheese on Fridays. Seasonal pastries rotate as well, so the online collection is a useful preview of the styles rather than a fixed inventory of every day’s case.
Coffee—and the drink locals call a Glacier
At the espresso bar, a Glacier is a blended drink, with mocha, white mocha/caramel and Peanut Butter Bliss among the listed versions. There are also conventional espresso drinks, cold brew, smoothies and Italian sodas. The bakery says it sources its coffee from Clayton’s Coffee in the Central Valley.
Lunch starts with the bakery’s bread
The deli menu makes the bakery connection clear. Several sandwiches use house-made garlic focaccia, while others use buttercrust, sourdough or marble rye. A few distinctive orders are:
- Turkey Pesto Panini: turkey and Swiss with pesto mayonnaise on garlic focaccia.
- Turkey Cranberry: turkey, cream cheese and cranberry sauce on buttercrust bread.
- Reuben: pastrami and Swiss with sauerkraut and Thousand Island on marble rye.
The kitchen also offers quiche, salads and soup combinations. Soup changes daily, with clam chowder listed for Fridays and loaded baked potato soup for Saturdays. A half sandwich and cup of soup is one of the menu’s combinations; build-your-own sandwiches offer several bread, meat and cheese choices.
Ordering a celebration cake
Custom cakes need a conversation. The ordering FAQ says to place orders by phone or in person. Email is for reference pictures and office correspondence, rather than booking or pricing an order.
The bakery generally asks for three days for a simple cake and about a month for a tiered cake, depending on its bookings. Custom and large orders require a deposit of at least one-third. Wedding consultations are available Monday–Saturday; start with the bakery rather than assuming a date is reserved by sending an image.
The cake section is the place to browse flavors and designs before that conversation. For dietary requests, the FAQ makes one practical distinction: specialty-diet pastries are made on shared equipment, and the bakery cautions against relying on them for a serious allergy.
From Terry Wagner to Terri Coonce
Olde Tyme opened on May 1, 1981, founded by Terry Wagner. Its own history describes his aim of creating a full-line bakery with wedding cakes, European-style pastries and bread. It originally operated in the back corner of Geer Gardens before moving to its present Geer Road premises.
Terri Coonce was with the bakery from its beginnings and purchased it in 2016. The Journal’s thirty-fifth-anniversary report describes customers whose usual seats were already known and longtime decorators whose handwriting had become familiar on local cakes. Those are small details, but they explain the attachment better than an award list.
In 2019, Olde Tyme won California’s full-line bakery category in Dawn Foods’ customer-voted Sweetest Bakery contest. The Journal’s report on the award credits the loyal customers whose votes helped the shop win.
