PLACES & EVERYDAY TURLOCK
Walnut Road shows a side of Turlock that a restaurant list misses. Its northern stretch is tied to school mornings and residential neighborhoods; farther south, the same road connects to the city’s working landscape and public services.

The northern school corridor
Two campuses make North Walnut a practical landmark for families. Turlock Junior High School lists its address as 3951 N. Walnut Road. Just north, Walnut Elementary Education Center is at 4219 N. Walnut Road. The state directory records Walnut’s opening on August 20, 2007.
Walnut is a public magnet school, with Discovery Math/Science and Renaissance Visual and Performing Arts programs. Turlock Unified’s choice-program guide explains how the two approaches fit its STEAM focus. For a family moving into the area, the useful distinction is between living near a school and qualifying for a particular program: use district enrollment information for the actual assignment or application.
Pitman High is nearby on 2525 W. Christoffersen Parkway, rather than on Walnut itself. Its school calendar helps identify the events and activities that bring families into this part of town.
A different kind of park stop
The BMX Bike Park and Walnut Basin are at 4013 N. Walnut Road. The city’s listing describes beginner-to-advanced jumps, open play spaces and soccer fields. The grounds also serve as a storm basin; helmets, knee pads and elbow pads are required for the bike park. See the park guide for how this compares with a playground or picnic park.
Residential connections
Walnut is useful for understanding how the northwestern neighborhoods connect. The school campuses, residential side streets and routes toward Monte Vista have a different purpose from the big retail destinations on Countryside Drive. Geer’s commercial corridor lies farther east.
The south end has its own history
South Walnut also has an important public-service role. Turlock Animal Services lists its shelter at 801 S. Walnut Road. Use the city’s animal-services page for adoption, licensing and visitor information.
The Fire Department timeline records a new Station 2 opening on South Walnut in May 1981, replacing the earlier Orange Street station. That move places the street within the story of how city services expanded beyond the older downtown blocks.
